DESCRIPTION:
France, three piece mantel garniture set, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a metal case of classic architectural form with stepped base, six full Corinthian columns flanking an ashlar facade with central arch, a painted ceramic panel within displaying a gilt chapter ring with Roman numerals, a scene of royals walking amidst an ancient city below the dial, all topped by a pediment with applied gilt ornament, two matching urns, both with painted ceramic panels.
CONDITION:
The gilding has worn off of much of the arch and the roof of the building will need to be secured, but otherwise this is an attractive and impressive case. The left end of the applied ornament in the pediment is absent. Beautiful, unsigned, painted ceramic panels on all three pieces. Substantial urns with matching architectural details. There is a tiny chip to the ceramic panel below one of the urns. Knob for back door is missing. The movement is signed with the initials "E. A." on either side of an anchor. Strikes on large cathedral gong.
